Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why animals?

Animals have a unique way of being present, non-judgmental, and compassionate. Animals are calming and loving. They can ease any anxiety around the therapy process and help to open up communication.

  • Do I need any type of animal experience?

No! No experience with any animal is necessary for animal-assisted therapy. Sometimes it can even be a better experience if you aren’t as familiar with the animal. However, your safety and level of comfort will always be the highest priority.

It is important to note, however, that all equine-assisted activities will be unmounted, meaning clients do not ride the horses.

  • What is your approach?

I believe in approaching therapy from an attachment perspective, meaning we don’t exist in a vacuum! I will inquire about your relationships and your upbringing.

I utilize a variety of approaches, including EMDR. EMDR’s goal is to help your nervous system heal from trauma or distressing life experiences.

  • What should I bring?

For office sessions, you may want to bring a journal and a pen, but nothing is necessary. Complimentary water, coffee, and tea are provided.

For farm sessions, be prepared for all sorts of Colorado weather! Close-toed shoes are necessary for animal interactions. Wear layers and clothes/shoes that you do not mind getting dirty. Bring sunscreen or a hat and a water bottle!

  • What happens in rainy or snowy weather?

For farm sessions, we will have access to indoor spaces in the event of inclement weather. If it is snowing enough for schools or roads to close, we will evaluate safety and reschedule our session if needed.

  • Can you write me a service animal or ESA letter?

At this time, I do not write letters for the prescription of service animals or Emotional Support Animals. However, I can provide resources for you.

Please do not bring your own animal to the therapy session.
